What Everton players can expect from 'master psychologist' Sean Dyche on first day

Former Burnley defender Michael Duff has revealed what Everton players may be able to expect from Sean Dyche.

Dyche spent over a decade at Turf Moor and transformed the Lancashire club into an established Premier League side during his time and even took them into the Europa League.

The Kettering-born manager is set to be named as the new man in the Goodison Park hot seat after Frank Lampard was sacked on Monday afternoon as the Blues slipped to 19th in the Premier League.

Duff spent 12 years with Burnley and made over 300 appearances. The Barnsley manager admitted Dyche is a 'master of psychology'.

"We were given a piece of paper to write down our thoughts," Duff told the Daily Mail. "It was different to what we’d been used to. He told us to express what we wanted — if all that came back was a doodle, he wouldn’t take offence.

"He was a master psychologist. We had talented players but were too open. He made us reach that conclusion ourselves. He wanted to root out any energy-sappers in the group."

Duff believes Everton could prove to be Dyche's biggest challenge yet, but has backed his former manager to rise to opportunity.

"When you look at the managers who have gone to Goodison and it hasn’t worked, guys who went on to Barcelona and Real Madrid, you think that there must be something else happening at the club," Duff added.

"Sean deserves this chance. He rebuilt Burnley, the finances, the training ground and they’re still reaping the benefits under Vincent Kompany now."
