Son Heung-min's tackle on Andre Gomes in the 1-1 draw between Spurs and Everton was clearly never intended to cause injury.
But following the South Korean star's attempt at stopping his opponent, Gomes suffered a serious injury, with Son looking distraught on the pitch after the incident.
The Spurs star was eventually sent off for his tackle, despite initially being booked with the Premier League later confirming that referee Martin Atkinson had decided to upgrade the decision on his own, and it was not referred to VAR.
Mauricio Pochettino stated after the game that he was unsure whether his club would be appealing the red card or not, but added that his player was devastated about the injury Gomes suffered.
Pochettino also revealed that Everton captain Seamus Coleman - who was a substitute during the match - came into the Spurs dressing room after the game to attempt to console Son.
Coleman himself suffered a broken leg two-and-a-half years ago, and Pochettino offered his thanks to the Republic of Ireland international for the part he played after the match.
"The players from Everton, who were fantastic," Pochettino told reporters. "I want to say thank you. The captain, Coleman. They came to the dressing room to console Sonny.
"But now [he is] very calm. I want to say thank you to the players and of course Coleman who came in on behalf of the Everton squad."
