What Everton boss Marco Silva has said about Andre Gomes transfer amid Tottenham talk

Reports on the continent have suggested that Tottenham have agreed terms with Andre Gomes ahead of a proposed transfer from Barcelona.

Gomes was a reported Tottenham target last summer, but it was Everton who swooped to secure a season-long loan deal for the 25-year-old Portuguese midfielder.

And he has impressed while on loan at Goodison Park.

Gomes has played in 26 of Everton's 37 Premier League games this season, shining at the heart of the Toffees midfield.

Dimitar Berbatov has a warning for Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United and Spurs ahead of next season

With Mousa Dembele having left Spurs halfway through this season, and injuries to Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama at various stages of the campaign, it has been a real problem position for Mauricio Pochettino.

It will be a key area that he tries to fix this summer, but if it is Gomes he wants to bring in, he will face competition for him.

Everton want to make the loan into a permanent £25million deal and Marco Silva has been talking about the potential of securing his services.

Speaking ahead of the final day meeting between Spurs and Everton, Silva said: "Andre's future we keep open, and not just Andre but [Kurt] Zouma also.

The lessons Daniel Levy and Tottenham must learn from Liverpool in the summer transfer window

"But you asked me about Andre. His future is open and it is up to us the best we can do to sign him.

"I don't know all the details but I think we already started to do something."
