What Edwin Van der Sar has been told about Donny van de Beek by Man Utd contacts

Manchester United officials are still confident about Donny van de Beek’s future at the club despite the midfielder struggling for minutes since joining, claims Edwin van der Sar.

The youngster signed from Ajax in the previous summer transfer window for £40.5million, but has yet to find his feet in Manchester.

He’s started just twice in the Premier League, and was hooked at half-time during one of those occasions.

United have faced criticism over his signing, with many claiming the club didn’t need to sign him given the talent Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay have.

However, Van der Sar claims United are still confident about his future.

The former goalkeeper, who is Ajax’s chief executive and helped to organise Van de Beek’s move to United, claimed the youngster is looking good in training.

Speaking to Dutch radio, he insisted that there’s no shame in the midfielder’s failure to crack into the starting XI already considering the wealth of talent in the squad.

Van der Sar explained that there is still a long time for the 23-year-old to make his mark at Old Trafford, and that he has been informed club chiefs are confident.

“I do talk to a lot of people at the club,” He said.

“[He has a] fantastic attitude, he does well in training.

“It [sealing a spot in the Manchester United midfield] is difficult.

“Pogba is coming back, Fernandes is very important, [Nemanja] Matic and McTominay, are also there.

“It’s no shame at all, it’s also a big club, isn’t it?

“Of course, it’s a large amount [Van de Beek’s £40.5m transfer fee], but they are confident that he will get there.”
