What Edu has said about an Arsenal return amid technical director links

Edu is set for a return to Arsenal this summer, if rumours are to be believed.

Fresh reports in Brazil clam that the former midfielder has accepted an offer from the Gunners that will see the 40-year-old take up a position as part of the football operations at the Emirates Stadium.

Although the exact nature of the role has not been disclosed, it is widely thought that Arsenal have been looking to bring someone in as director of football to work alongside head of football Raul Sanllehi.

Edu currently works as the technical co-ordinator of the Brazil national side where he is charge of all age groups and works closely with head coach Tite, who he also worked alongside while he was director of football at Corinthians.

Furthermore, the report states Edu will link up with the north London outfit after this summer's Copa America.

If true then Edu will be rejoining a club he served for four years as a player.

He arrived in January 2001 and eventually left for Valencia during 2005 having won two Premier League title and two FA Cups.

And previous comments from Edu suggest he could be more than happy to return once again to north London as speculation over his future grows.

Speaking in October ahead the international friendly between Brazil and Uruguay at the Emirates, he said: “It will be a great pleasure to go back to the Emirates, a stadium that’s home to a club I’m really fond of.

"I had the opportunity to play for many years with Arsenal and win some important titles.

"So, without a doubt, it will be a pleasure to see the red and white colours of Arsenal again in a stadium that is increasingly becoming more important in the world.

"I remember well that I played my last game alongside great friends like Dennis Bergkamp and other great athletes that were a part of Arsenal’s history.

"And just as I said earlier it will be a great pleasure to come back again now with the Brazilian team.

"It will be a great honour and I will certainly remember the great moments I had with Arsenal’s supporters."
