Covid Scotland: What you can and can't do in Level 1 lockdown

In just 24 hours, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will make the announcement many have been staying hopeful for - whether the majority of mainland Scotland, including Edinburgh, can move into Level one of lockdown.

It is unlikely Glasgow will move to level one restrictions as new case numbers of coronavirus continue to remain high in Scotland's largest city.

But what will life in Edinburgh look like if it moves into Level one next week?

For all the latest coronavirus news please see our live blog here

If the city is moved down a level, locals could enjoy pints indoors until 11pm, go to an outdoor event with 500 others and more - here's the full list of what you can enjoy in Edinburgh if the capital moves to Level 1 of Scotland's lockdown restrictions from Monday 7 June:

Meeting with family and friends

  • Up to 6 people from 3 households in your home or theirs – and can stay overnight
  • Up to 8 people from 3 households in an indoor public place like a café, pub or restaurant
  • Up to 12 people from 12 households outdoors in your garden or a public place
  • Under 12s do not count towards the total number of people or households meeting outside but do count towards the number of households indoors
  • You do not need to physically distance from family and friends in a private home

Stadiums and Events

  • Outdoor seated and open space events are advised to operate with a maximum capacity of 1,000 people
  • Outdoor grouped standing events are advised to operate with a maximum capacity of 500 people
  • Small seated indoor events are advised to operate with a maximum of 200 people

Hospitality

  • All restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars can open indoors until 23:00 and outdoors (within local licensing conditions) for the consumption of food AND alcohol
  • Table service and the wearing of face-coverings (unless exempt) when not seated by all customers is mandatory in all hospitality venues

  • You should stay at least 2 metres apart from people from other households at all times, unless the venue is operating 1 metre distancing due to additional measures being in place to avoid transmission

  • Takeaways can operate as normal

  • Places and business that must REMAIN CLOSED at Level 1 include: nightclubs and adult entertainment

Travel

  • People must not travel to places in Level 0, 1, or 2 areas if they are from a Level 3 or 4 area, except for essential purposes.
  • You can travel anywhere in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands - before you travel you must check the travel rules in those countries

Nicola Sturgeon will make her announcement on lockdown restrictions tomorrow, Tuesday 1 June - follow our live blog here for all the latest COVID updates from Scotland.
