What Eddie Nketiah did before Arsenal's win over Leeds and his five-word message to supporters

Eddie Nketiah watched on as Arsenal beat Leeds 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium to earn a fourth round tie against Bournemouth.

A second half goal from Reiss Nelson was enough to edge past Marcelo Bielsa's impressive Leeds side, but the Gunners were perhaps fortunate to keep a clean sheet.

Alexandre Lacazette started up front for Arsenal, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ruled out through ilness.

Nketiah, who was recently recalled from his loan spell at Leeds, was not named on the bench however, and watched the match from the stands.

The Gunners forward spent the first half of the season on loan at Leeds, after the Yorkshire side beat off fierce competition from several clubs to sign Nketiah on loan in the summer.

But Bielsa has continued to favour Bamford as his lone striker, with Nketiah only making two Championship starts in total at Elland Road.

Reports claim that Bristol City are the frontrunners to sign Nketiah for the remainder of the season, with Sheffield Wednesday, Brentford and Nottingham Forest also keen to temporarily home the 20-year-old.

Before the match on Monday, Nketiah posted a picture on his Instagram story of his view from behind the dugout.

The picture was accompanied by a caption of: 'Should be an interesting watch," with a cup of tea and eyes emojis.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith believes that the Gunners should keep hold of Nketiah as cover for Aubameyang and Lacazette, rather than send him on loan again.

Smith told the  Evening Standard : "Eddie Nketiah has been recalled from their FA Cup third-round-opponents after a tough time at Elland Road.

“I am sure he learnt a lot under [Marcelo] Bielsa and he deserves a crack back at the Emirates.

“When he went to Leeds, I was a little disappointed because it looked like he could have been useful in the squad but he has done well off the bench and got himself some goals.

“He will have come to terms with the physical aspect of the division and Arsenal will be getting back a more rounded, better player.

“It would be a shame to see Nketiah sent out on loan again - if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette get injured then you are a little short.”
