What ECHO readers are looking forward to most as lockdown restrictions ease today

The joy of meeting up with more friends and family is the most welcome change to lockdown restrictions today, according to ECHO readers.

Garden visits are now back on as the latest easing of pandemic measures means up to six people can now meet outside.

The prospect of greater social freedom scored highest on a survey conducted by the ECHO ahead of today's changes.

Around 450 readers took part, with 33% saying they were most excited about meeting others outside, wither in gardens or other settings.

But the next most common answer highlighted how concerns remain about coronavirus in the region, with 26% responding by saying they were concerned the rules were being relaxed too soon.

Following the reopening of schools earlier this month, today's changes mark the second step of the pathway out of restrictions.

Up to six people, or two households, can now meet outside, outdoor sporting facilities can reopen and the stay-at-home rule has been lifted.

The government is urging people to work at home where possible, however, and limit journeys.

The opportunity to travel a bit further is also being welcomed by those who responded to the survey, with 16% saying that was what they were looking forward to most.

The number of new cases has been falling across the Liverpool City Region over the course of the latest lockdown.

But the majority of respondents remained concerned about Covid-19, with 56% saying they feared catching it as society opened up more and the same number saying they did not feel safe using public transport at this stage.
