Pubs, bars and restaurants will not be allowed to reopen in areas placed under tier 3 restrictions, Boris Johnson confirmed today.
Speaking to the House of Commons, the Prime Minister confirmed hospitality businesses which fall under Tier 3 would only be allowed to open for takeaway and delivery - the same rules in place at the moment during England's second lockdown.
Starting his speech this afternoon, Boris Johnson confirmed from December 2 national measures will be lifted and replaced with a regional tier system, but warned measures would be stricter than last time.
He said: "We are not going to replace national measures into a free for all."
Hospitality venues in Tier 1 will be allowed to reopen for table service only and last orders will need to be taken at 10pm and to close by 11pm.
Businesses in Tier 2 will only be able to serve alcohol as part of a substantial meal. Pubs must close if they do not serve food.
And hospitality venues in Tier 3 which is the strictest tier must close completely except for delivery and takeaway.
The Prime Minister said the tougher new measures in the Government's Tier system was due to scientific advice.
He added that last time the system did work but "not quite enough to reduce the R rate to below 1"
Details about which area will be placed in each tier will be announced later this week.
