What each supermarket is rationing after coronavirus panic buying

Rationing has been brought in to supermarkets across the UK after panic buying stripped the shelves of food, toiletries and every day essentials.

The Government last week told people not to panic buy as supplies of food and essentials will be maintained in supermarkets as the Covid-19 virus continues to spread.

But shoppers have ignored the advice, stripping shelves bare, forcing supermarkets to restrict the number of items people can buy.

Tesco has introduced a five-item maximum on a number of foods including long-life milk, pasta and anti-bacterial wipes.

It has sold out of many types of pasta online, reports BirminghamLive, while The Guardian the shop is also running low on tinned food - such as tomatoes.

Tesco

Five-item limit on a number of items including bleach, tinned vegetables, children's medicine, water, pasta, anti-bacterial wipes, gels and sprays, and long-life milk. Started online on Sunday morning and in stores on Saturday afternoon.

Restrictions apply online and in store.

Waitrose

Waitrose is currently restricting online sales of certain anti-bacterial soaps and wipes. The supermarket is in talks with suppliers to increase orders, reports The BBC.

Some stores have introduced their own restrictions at a local level.

Morrisons
