What Dundee United and Celtic managers are saying ahead of Tannadice meeting

Neil Lennon says today's encounter with Dundee United will be a good game for his team "to sink our teeth into".

The Celtic boss has been preparing his side for their first Premiership game in 13 days, with his team travelling to Tannadice this evening.

United boss Micky Mellon aims to make life difficult for the champions, who have brought Olivier Ntcham back into their starting lineup.

Here's what Mellon and Lennon have been saying ahead of today's game.

MICKY MELLON

“Whenever you play the champions in any country you know the challenge will be a big one.

“But it is something you want to be involved in and get excited about.

“We will be encouraging the players to get involved in all games so this is an opportunity to play in a fantastic game against the champions.

“It is all positive because it gives us a chance to see where we are as a club and go attack it.

“We believe we can make a positive impact – that is what we are in the Premiership for.

“Given the size of this football club, that is what we should we doing. That is what the fans and the owners of the club expect.

We will be trying to find a way to make it difficult for Celtic. Every team has strengths and weaknesses, so we have to get an awful lot right on the day to get a result against Celtic.

“But this is football and you always have a chance.”

NEIL LENNON

“Dundee United have made a very good start. They’re under new management in Micky Mellon, who I know from during my time in England, and I actually played against him back in the day.

“They’ve made an excellent start, particularly away from home. They’ll be delighted to be back in the top league and will be a welcome addition again. We’re looking forward to the game, especially off the back of a good win earlier this week.

“Dundee United have taken seven points out of 12, which is pretty good. It it does take time for a new manager to put his stamp on things, but he seems to have settled in there very quickly and they’re a very energetic team.

“They try and play and there’s a freedom about the way they play. Obviously it’s an exciting time for the club being in the top league.

"We want to build on the performance and result on Tuesday, and going up there is a good game, it’s a good game to sink your teeth into and the players are looking forward to it.

"The game tomorrow sets us up for the Champions League game on Wednesday, but we’re obviously not taking our eye off what we need to do domestically."

Dundee United v Celtic kicks off at 5.30pm.
