What Duncan Ferguson said to Jurgen Klopp on the touchline during Everton win at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Everton assistant Duncan Ferguson could be seen having a brief but heated exchange during the first half of the Merseyside derby.

With the Reds appealing for a penalty at Anfield – for a potential handball in the box – Klopp is said to have called across to Ferguson.

According to journalist Julien Laurens, Klopp shouted “Why are you laughing?” to the Everton bench and Ferguson, who was said to have a big smile on his face.

“We are allowed to talk or is it just you Jurgen?” reportedly came the reply, before Laurens claims the experienced Seamus Coleman stepped in and intervened.

The incident came in a game that saw the Toffees add more Anfield misery to Klopp and his Liverpool charges.

James Rodriguez slipped a clever ball through to Richarlison after just three minutes, he got in round the back of Ozan Kabak and finished clinically, low into the far corner.

That’s how it remained at the interval, but Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up to convert a second-half penalty and seal the three points.

The result leaves Everton in seventh place, level on points with Liverpool but behind on goal difference.

They are back in action on March 1st at home to Southampton.
