What does the trade of QB Joshua Dobbs mean for the Steelers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers worked a trade on Monday to send backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2020 fifth-round pick. This leaves the Steelers minus a third quarterback and locks Mason Rudolph in as Ben Roethlisberger’s primary backup for the remainder of the season.

This leaves a void on the Steelers roster. Pittsburgh always carries a third quarterback although they don’t dress on game days. Unless head coach makes a huge departure from their current philosophy Pittsburgh will sign a free-agent quarterback sometime today.

Who will Pittsburgh sign? The easy choice is Devlin Hodges. He spent training camp and the preseason with the Steelers and played well. He knows the system and by all accounts impressed the coaches.

Aside from Hodges, the pickings are slim. Guys like Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch are out there and could be looking for a fresh start. Even Colin Kapernick is out there is the Steelers wanted to take a shot on him. But it’s highly unlikely Kaepernick would sign with the Steelers to be a No. 3 quarterback and make veteran minimum money.

Which quarterback do you want to see the Steelers sign to replace Joshua Dobbs? Let us know in the comments below.
