There is an extensive body of expertise in psychology, which an Edge Hill University professor believes is vastly under-used in education in the UK.
Professor Dave Putwain, professor of education at Edge Hill, has just given a lecture on the topic of psychology in education at a public lecture at the university and has recorded an interview shedding more light on the subject which can be downloaded here.
His professorial lecture revealed how the world of education could benefit from the better use of educational psychology.
Professor Putwain says: “The fact that the GCSE years (school years 10 and 11) are some of the most important of a young person’s life is often stressed by teachers and rightly so, however these messages can affect each individual student differently in both positive and negative ways.
“Teachers could benefit from thinking about different ways of delivering these messages after identifying what makes a student tick. As part of my research I’ve spoken to many teachers who have been very interested in this subject, and it’s urged them to think about the messages they are sending out in their classrooms.”
Edge Hill University hosts a range of public lectures and events by academics from the university and other institutions and organisations from across the country. Find out more on the Edge Hill website.
