The verdict is still very much out on the "bigger is better" media argument, according to commentator Dante Chinni. Mulling over the likelihood of the Federal Communications Commission loosening the media ownership rules and thus leading to the giants devouring more media outlets, he points out that the biggest media ownership news of the year so far is a story of fragmentation rather than consolidation with the dissolution of the Knight Ridder newspaper chain and its dispersal by McClatchy.
