Paul Finebaum wrote the book on being an SEC homer. And who can blame him really? His widely popular radio and television simulcast is predicated on callers that would mortgage their homes in the sweet tea belt for a sniff at a national championship. Sometimes he just has to play the part and make his fans happy.
But you have to give him credit too. He has often gone off that grid and tried to be objective. He did it with Ohio State in 2015 when the Buckeyes returned a loaded team after winning the national title, and he’s on that same train so far this year.
Like others, Finebaum lets his thoughts be known on who he believes the best teams are in college football each week via his Twitter account, and the latest is in. He has been very, very high on Ohio State and called the Buckeyes the best team he’s seen so far in 2019 already, and he still feels that way apparently.
Finebaum has Ohio State No. 1 followed by Alabama, LSU, and Clemson.
Not even an impressive LSU win against a top ten Florida team this weekend has changed his mind. He even believes Alabama isn’t quite on part with Ohio State either. Finebaum has Ohio State No. 1 followed by Alabama, LSU, and Clemson.
If you’re keeping track, that’s two SEC teams he believes would likely lose to Ohio State if they matched up. If that’s not a record, it’s awfully close. Heck, he even has the Big Ten’s Wisconsin lurking just below this top four. Ahead of Florida, Auburn, and Georgia.
