Losing luggage is a sure-fire way to ruin a holiday.
Arriving at your destination and having to leave the airport without your clothes and other belongings is far from ideal. There is always the hope that it will be sent out on a later flight, but making a local clothes shop the first stop of your time away is not what anyone wants.
Many airports have different policies with what they do with lost luggage. If it is claimed and located, it will be sent out to whom it belongs.

However, there is little that they can do with unclaimed items. London Heathrow has a creative way of dealing with unclaimed items. The airport auctions lost luggage if they cannot reunite cases with their owners, reports MyLondon.
However, Liverpool Airport has a very conventional way of dealing with lost luggage. A spokesperson for the airport told the ECHO that a handling agent works with the airline to locate any lost luggage and then have it flown over on a subsequent flight to the person's destination.
Among the most common luggage items to be lost at the airport are normal bags, prams, skis and golf clubs. However, the airport's numbers are low compared with the overall volumes that successfully arrive as planned.
According to the spokesperson, most luggage is reclaimed by those who lost it. However, in a rare instance that any items go unclaimed, they are disposed of after a "reasonable amount of time".
