What does Eddie Hobbs do nowadays? The controversial economist who just returned to RTE screens

Monday evening's episode of Claire Byrne Live drew heavy criticism for focusing on "The Rise of Sinn Féin", with plenty of angry reactions from people who had tuned in, particularly after the appearance of one contributor.

Alongside the likes of Fine Gael TD Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and Sinn Féin's Matt Carthy was one Eddie Hobbs.

The former host of the Rip Off Republic and co-founder of the Renua Ireland political group popped up on our screens to argue the case as to why people should be concerned with the potential plans of a Sinn Féin Government.

However, his appearance caused fury online, with many people pointing to a disastrous stint involving the now-defunct Brendan Investments.

"Eddie Hobbs is the go to economist & doesn't know the difference between socialism & Communism" tweeted one user.

A second questioned: "Why is that anti vaxxer Eddie Hobbs from dead cat bounce Renua gets rolled out. Who takes this idiot seriously?"

But after his surprise reappearance on the national broadcaster, what else has Eddie been up to recently?

New book

The Corkman has put pen to paper on his first novel, which will hit shelves over the next few weeks.

The First Heresy draws on deep historical research to create a unique, fast-paced thriller which will have you on the edge of your seat, according to its publishers.

Liberties Press say that Hobbs "has combined his love of history with his maverick and challenging perspective, which looks for connections across centuries of time, testing the perceptions not just of Christian-foundation myths but also of spirit-man and our destiny."

Jabs at Justin Trudeau and New Zealand

Eddie has been quite vocal on social media in recent weeks about Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

All of it surrounds the 'Convoy for Freedom' in the North American nation, which is just a name for a series of protests against Covid-19 restrictions and vaccinations.

Eddie has tweeted in recent days: "Canadian Trucker protest against Federal restrictions makes it to New Zealand where Arderns Zero Covid isolationism, snapping Lockdowns & 28 day quarantining is losing her popular support fast. The clash with police is sad but inspiration from Canada clear"
