Politicians talk of the West Lothian question. But what of the Andy Murray question? A reader, Paul Connolly, got in touch via GuardianWitness to suggest an assignment idea:
What is Britain and 'Britishness' to you?
With Scotland on the verge of independence, what is being British? And what does it mean to you?
We contacted Paul via email, and he added:
I identify as British but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Scotland to become independent, and I wonder if after the election British identity will be the same. Whatever vote wins I doubt Britain and Britishness will be the same.
So now it's over to you. Whether you reside in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or the People's Republic of South Yorkshire, we want your stories to help us understand the state of Britishness as the union wrestles with its future.
Do you feel British, or is another identity more prominent? Or is it a combination? Perhaps you consider yourself Cornish first and foremost, and are celebrating your recognition as being part of a national minority group. Maybe you identify with one of these tribes. Whatever your loyalty, background and identity, we'd love to hear from you.
