What do you value about public services?

With George Osborne’s spending review due imminently, the public sector is braced for further budget cuts. This is on top of the cuts they have already experienced, both in absolute and real terms.

Local authorities saw spending reduced by one-third in the last parliament, while a recent blog from the King’s Fund’s chief economist for health policy suggested that “the decade since the 2010 spending review will be the toughest financially since the inspection of the NHS”.

But, despite this, public services continue to support people from all areas of society. Whether it’s the hospital that gave a 112-year-old woman a hip replacement, the social workers changing people’s lives, or the charities providing foodbanks, public services remain at the heart of communities.

Here on Guardian Society Professionals, we want to celebrate the public services that help us all, and the people who work for them. We want you to tell us what you value about public services; whether it’s your local library or housing association, the fire service, or a youth club. We want stories about the little moments that have made a difference to your day, as well as the life-altering events.

Whether it’s a picture, video or story you want to share, you can submit it through GuardianWitness – either anonymously or with your name.

Our favourite submissions may appear in galleries or articles. You can also tweet us with your experiences on #WhatsItWorth.
