What do you need to take with you to the polling station to vote in the General Election?

Voting at a polling station is your democratic right and actually really easy.

However for first timers there can be a lot of questions. Do you need ID? Do you need a polling card? What time does it open?

We have answered all the questions you may have ahead of polling day.

All you have to decide it where to put the X.

Do I need to take ID with me when I vote?

No!

You do not need to take ID.

The only people in the UK who need ID are voters in Northern Ireland. If you are in Wales, Scotland or England you don't need ID.

When can you vote?

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, December 12.

Do I need to take my polling card?

You should have been sent a polling card just before an election telling you when to vote and at which polling station.

This is the only polling station you can vote at.

What if I have lost my polling card?

You can still vote if you’ve lost your card. The only thing you need to take is yourself.

What if I have a postal vote but it is too late to send?

According to Gov.uk you should take it to your local polling station by 10pm, or  Electoral Registration Office  before they close.

What happens when you get to the polling station?

When you arrive you give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station w.

You’ll be given a ballot paper containing a list of the people, parties or options you can vote for.
