What do you do with old paint?

This week's question

Like everyone I know, my shed is full of tins of old paint. Some of it cost £28, but it has been there a long time. Is it still usable, or does it go off? I tried to take some to the dump but they refused it. I'm loathe to throw it out. What do others do with their old paint?
