What do people in Dalbeattie class as their favourite biscuit?

Smart cookies were going crackers for National Biscuit Day on Wednesday.

It celebrates all that is great and good about biscuits, from custard creams and bourbons to digestives and hobnobs.

Of course, not included were Jaffa Cakes, which it has been proven in court are most definitely not a biscuit.

Choosing a favourite biscuit can be difficult and is a regular discussion or argument in offices up and down the country when it comes to break time.

We went to Dalbeattie allotments to find out what folk there like to enjoy when they’re taking a break from tending their plants and vegetables.

Bill Marshall. (Jim McEwan)

Bill Marshall came up with a classic that you don’t find very often nowadays. He said: “A Blue Riband, they’re made in Poland now. I also enjoy digestives as well that have one side chocolate. Biscuits seem to be getting smaller. It’s the same with Mars bars and they stay the same price.”

Jonty Durok. (Jim McEwan)

Digestives also found favour with Jonty Durok, who was enjoying the sun with his dog Tye.

He said: “I like the chocolate ones but I’ve got to try to stick to the ordinary ones nowadays.

“They’re nice with a bit of butter on them and a bit of cheese as a wee snack at night – a sandwich with cheese and jam is another of my favourites.”

Jim Henderson. (Jim McEwan)

Jim Henderson said: “I have a granola bar with me because I’m diabetic, it keeps me going.

“I like a rich tea biscuit with a cup of tea. I’ve got to watch what I have, chocolate biscuits are out.”

Katrina Little. (Jim McEwan)

And Katrina Little had a traditionally Scottish biscuit for her pick. She said: “Shortbread is definitely my favourite. Its the kind of biscuit you can eat with a lot of things. It’s versatile. I just enjoy the taste of it. My mother in law makes it. I don’t like chocolate biscuits,

“I like plain biscuits and also flapjacks and digestives.”
