What do Americans traditionally eat on 4th of July? Independence Day dishes

It only comes around once a year but it's finally the 4th of July.

American Independence Day sees patriots of the country celebrate the United States of America becoming a separated nation from the British monarchy.

But how does one celebrate the 4th of July in American style?

A big part of any celebration or holiday has to be food , so here are some of the staple dishes of any 4th of July celebration.

Of course, every family will have different traditions but let us know your favourite ways to feel American and celebrate.

Remember: if you can fit in the colours of Red, White, and Blue somewhere then you are definitely doing it right.

4th of July food: Independence Day dishes

Fruit Pies

Cherry, Strawberry, Apple. All of the fruit in all of the pies.

Mac 'N' Cheese

You need a lot of cheese and lots of macaroni. Simple.

Hot Dogs

Get your hot dogs, get your chili dogs, get your 'slaw dogs. Can't beat a sausage in a bun.

Fried Chicken

Deep fry that chicken, get it a little peppery, enjoy some crispy skin. Or head to your local fried chicken takeaway.

Burgers

Customise it with lots of toppings (cheese, bacon, gherkins, avocados if you're fancy). Or just go for a classic hamburger.

Corn on the Cob

A sure staple of Independence Day vibes - ideally grilled with that charred edge. A knob of butter. Lovely.

Slaw

Full name: Coleslaw. Easy to customise but carrot and cabbage is a must-do, oh and mayo, this is America after all.

Steak and Ribs

Meat, meat, meat! Get the BBQ and/or grill going because you need to have these in your 4th of July spread.

S'mores

An American campfire staple that is traditionally marshmallow and chocolate between two graham (cinammon-flavoured) crackers or cookies.
