What Dimitar Berbatov has said about his former Spurs team-mate Gareth Bale amid Man United talk

Dimitar Berbatov says he thinks former Tottenham star Gareth Bale should return to England this summer, amid reports over a move to Manchester United.

The former Spurs ace has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer, with reports in Spain suggesting that Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane would be willing to let the Welshman go.

Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett has been quoted as saying that the 29-year-old wants to stay in Madrid and will happily see out his contract, which runs until 2022.

But Bale's former Tottenham team-mate Berbatov has suggested that he should return to England, amid the increased speculation over his future, with Spurs among the clubs to have been linked with the Welshman in recent times.

"The transfer rumours are already going and Gareth Bale has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford," Berbatov said in an interview with Betfair.

"I like him a lot and for me he is getting too much criticism which is not fair. He has scored lots of goals, and important goals, too. He is an unbelievable player   and if he can't find that appreciation in Madrid then come back to England where the fans know him and he is used to the football that is played.

"The only question is where to go, who wants to pay the fee and wage, but the big teams are not suffering from money problems so I'm sure a solution could be found!"
