Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has addressed reports linking goalkeeper Jan Oblak with a summer transfer to Chelsea.
Reports over the past few week have highlighted Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard's desire to land a new goalkeeper this summer, with Oblak claimed to be his No.1 target.
The Slovenia international, who has been on the Spanish club's books since 2014, is considered as one of the best goalkeepers in European football, with his strong and commanding performances over the past few seasons for Atletico rarely going unnoticed.
The shot-stopper, 27, has a release clause of £120million in his Atletico contract, meaning it would take a sizeable bid from Chelsea to possibly persuade the La Liga club to part with one of their prize assets.
However, according to a report by the Mirror, Chelsea are ready to offer Atletico a fee below £100million and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in a bid to complete the deal.
Now, Atletico chief Simeone, who has been in charge of the Spanish giants since 2011, has adressed the reports linking the 'keeper with a move away from the Spanish capital, insisting the reports "do not surprise him."
"It does not surprise me, every year our most important players are wanted by the best in the world," Simeone said, as quoted by Goal, ahead of Atletico's clash with Getafe on Thursday.
"It is normal to always look for the best – and we have many. Some have left and others have stayed.
"It is logical and normal that anyone wants Oblak. He is our captain and an important player. I hope we can count on his work, which is enormous for Atleti."
When asked again about Oblak's future at Atletico during the media call, Simeone added: "I repeat the same thing: it is normal that they want a goalkeeper of his characteristics and value.
"It does not surprise me. He is decisive and important in the dressing room year after year. He has evolved in every way, as a goalkeeper and within the group."
