Chelsea's 2020/21 season ended in fairytale fashion.
The Blues, fresh off securing a top-four Premier League finish, lifted their second-ever UEFA Champions League trophy after defeating Manchester City in May's final.
German playmaker Kai Havertz netted the only goal of the game after he latched onto Mason Mount's exquisite through ball on the stroke of half-time, before slotting it past the onrushing Ederson.
However, it wasn't just the west Londoners frontline that secured all the headlines following their European triumph as the Blues' resolute defence was one of the main reasons for their iconic success.
Chelsea conceded a measly four goals across 13 matches in the Champions League last term, an incredible record considering they played the likes of City, Real Madrid and Atletico on their way to glory.
Anchoring the backline for 12 of those 13 fixtures was Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who kept a whopping nine clean sheets in those 12 games.
The 29-year-old's incredible form earned him a nomination for UEFA 'keeper of the year, an award that he deservedly scooped up on Thursday night whilst Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and midfielder Jorginho also took home awards for the best coach and the best player respectively.
Mendy then took to social media to share his thoughts after scooping up the award.
His Instagram post read: "I have a very special feeling tonight, I am proud and honoured to win this award.
"I want to share it with all my teammates, all the staff, my coach, all the people who work behind the scenes to make the club grow, and with my family.
"Congratulations to Jorginho for winning the best player award, to Kante for being the best midfielder of the season, and congratulations to the coach, Thomas Tuchel, for being elected the best in his category.
"Now it's all about keeping working hard, being consistent and win more titles."
Blues' icon Didier Drogba commented on the post congratulating the Senegal international in French which roughly translated to: "It's massively deserved, so proud of you."
Drogba's comment will be a confidence booster to Mendy, who is yet to concede in the Premier League this season, with the west Londoners having beaten Crystal Palace 3-0 before seeing off London rivals Arsenal 2-0 on Sunday.
