What Didier Deschamps told Chelsea star N'Golo Kante after arriving late for France duty

N'Golo Kante has finally linked up with the French national team after his Champions Lague heroics and he received a brilliant message from his manager.

Kante played a starring role in the Blues' Champions League final win over Manchester City, dominating in the midfield as Thomas Tuchel and his men secured the club's second title in the competition.

And after a long, hard season of club football, Kante has now linked up with the France squad ahead of this summer's Euro 2020, with his nation hoping to add a European Championship to their World Cup win of 2018.

And after arriving a little after his scheduled arrival time, Kante received a witty response from his manager, Didier Deschamps, rather than any sort of telling off.

Deschamps said: "Why were you late?" and Kante responded: "Sorry, the train was delayed," with a smile on his face.

The French boss quickly replied: "Just run, you are faster than the train."

Deschamps might just have a point, but after a long, arduous club season that only finished for Kante on the weekend, he can be forgiven for not taking off on foot ahead of the Euros.

France are actually in action as soon as this evening when they take on Wales in a friendly, in Nice, but Kante is not expected to be involved given his late arrival and extended season.

France are back in action on Tuesday when they face Bulgaria, ahead of starting their Euro 020 campaign against Germany one week later, having been placed in an ultra-difficult group, which also includes Hungary and Portugal.

Nevertheless, Kante and his teammates are many people's favourites to win the competition, armed with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, and now Karim Benzema after the Real Madrid striker returned to the squad following years in exile.
