MSPs in Holyrood claimed a total of over £1.7 million between April and October last year.
They claimed for a range of expenses – from rent for Edinburgh accommodation and office costs to travel and Royal Mail postage – totalling £1,717,705 in Q1 and Q2 of the 2024/25 financial year, according to Scottish Parliament data.
Nearly half of the claims, or £790,234, were for office-related costs, including rent, utilities, council tax and equipment.
A hefty £494,002 was claimed for Edinburgh accommodation, including rent for a permanent capital base as well as hotel stays.
The MSP with the highest total of claims was SNP MSP for the Highlands and Islands, Emma Roddick, who claimed £30,811 – mostly for accommodation in Edinburgh and air travel.
She is followed by the Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for Shetland Islands, Beatrice Wishart, who claimed £30,075.
Again, as an MSP who represents an area far away from Holyrood, the bulk of the expenses went towards accommodation and air travel.
There is an allowance available to MSPs who live far from Edinburgh and require accommodation in the city to carry out parliamentary duties.
Scottish Tory MSP Meghan Gallacher claimed the least, followed by Scottish Labour MP Mark Griffin.
