What Declan Rice said to Aaron Cresswell ahead of his free kick strike against Manchester United

Declan Rice has been full of praise for West Ham team-mate Aaron Cresswell after he scored the second goal against Manchester United yesterday (Sunday).

The former Ipswich Town full-back netted from a free kick in the closing stages of the game at the London Stadium, with his goal putting the seal on three points for the Hammers against the Red Devils.

His strike came after he fired just over the bar from a free kick in a more central position earlier in the second half, with Cresswell finding the top corner with his second effort to beat David De Gea.

And Rice said he was delighted for his team-mate, who came back into the side in the absence of Arthur Masuaku, who was suspended after being sent off during West Ham's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa last Monday.

Meanwhile, Rice said he had a message for Cresswell before he stepped up to take the free kick from which he scored.

“I’ve got to say, he [Cresswell] has got one of the best left foots I have ever seen, the way he whips it is just so natural, a beautiful left foot," Rice said, in an interview with BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

“Before he took the second one I said ‘just calm down, take a deep breath’.

“He does that in training all the time. He has put it in the top bins, and he has been out of the squad for a couple of games, but I am so delighted for him. He is a top, top player.”
