What David de Gea told Diogo Dalot about his mistake during Manchester United win vs Everton

David de Gea admitted to his teammates that he 'did not expect the ball to go through his legs' when discussing the embarrassing blunder he made which led to Everton scoring an equaliser against Manchester United in the FA Cup third round.

United took the lead within five minutes against Everton thanks to Antony's goal on Friday night, but Frank Lampard's side were soon level after De Gea made a bizarre blunder, which saw the ball trickle through his legs at his front post.

Everton defender Conor Coady took advantage and poked home into an unguarded net and De Gea was left red-faced.

It was an embarrassing mistake for De Gea, who has made over 500 appearances for United, and Dalot, speaking after the 3-1 victory against Everton, has now opened up about his conversation with the goalkeeper during half-time.

"I spoke to David at half-time and he was not expecting the ball to go through his legs, even I was not expecting the ball to go through his legs, so I will take responsibility, I could have reacted a little bit quicker," Dalot told beIN Sports.

"Credit also to the Everton player [Coady] who reacted quicker than me. I think it's just things for us to learn, luckily we won with merit and we fight to score one more goal and I think we deserved to go through."

Dalot was also asked about Luke Shaw's recent position change to centre-back and he discussed the quality in the dressing room.

"I mean it just shows the quality we have in the squad, to be able to play in different positions, even during the game to be able to play in different roles," he added. "I think it's important for us and something the manager likes and demands.

"It's good for everyone, it gives us other options and I think Luke is doing a fantastic job and we're very happy with him."
