What David Brooks has said will give Arsenal and Tottenham hope over summer transfer swoop

All hope may not be lost for Tottenham and Arsenal in the quest to sign David Brooks after the Welsh star admitted that he wanted to play 'at the highest level possible'.

The Bournemouth winger recently signed a new long-term deal with the south coast club, less than a year after he agreed to a four-year contract following his £12m transfer from Sheffield United.

His boss, Eddie Howe said at the time: "David has impressed everyone from the minute he stepped through the door, with his mature, creative performances on the pitch backed up by a good attitude and professional lifestyle off it.

Arsenal must match Granit Xhaka's ambitions to bring Unai Emery's ambitious vision to life

"This contract means he can concentrate on developing his game with us, and it’s been an excellent start to David’s AFC Bournemouth career."

Spurs in particular missed out on Brooks by opting to focus their efforts on Aston Villa's Jack Grealish but that move failed to come to fruition when the Midlands club was taken over.

However, 21-year-old Brooks has his sights set firmly on improving and competing against the best he can. That could give Spurs or north London rivals Arsenal hope of completing a deal in the future, although a £50 million figure has already been mooted.

He told Wales Online : “I have said many times when I go into the league, you back yourself to do well but to make the impact I probably did as early on, I wouldn't have probably guessed and assumed I was going to do that," he added.

"But you back yourself when you get the chance.

“I don't know what the future holds for myself. I want to play at the highest level possible whether that is abroad or in England. Obviously the aim is to get up there and whatever opportunities come, I will have to make the decisions then.

“I am not really expecting it (offers from elsewhere), the reason I signed the contract is I am happy at Bournemouth and the way my progression is going.

"I want that to continue and for the focus not to be on anything else. That is why I signed and I am very happy at Bournemouth."
