What Dave King 'liked' about first Rangers takeover chat with Andrew Cavenagh

Dave King has revealed what he 'liked' about his initial discussions with Andrew Cavenagh regarding his and 49ers Enterprises' takeover of Rangers

The deal was officially confirmed last Friday, with an initial £20 million investment going straight into the club.

King has since lifted the lid on his initial conversations with Cavenagh, who is Rangers' new chairman.

He said [Sky Sports]: "What I liked about my initial chat with Andrew and then my subsequent chat when Paraag and the 49ers became more involved in the consortium [was] that kind of blended option where I felt that they understood sport, they understood the commercial aspects, they'd done a fantastic job, the figures had been given to me, on the Leeds United side, on the commercial revenue.

"I felt I had this kind of perfect combination where they had the financial muscle that we need both now and in the coming years, because things don't always go well and you need to be able to top up from time to time, and they had the footballing and the general sports knowledge and expertise."

King also revealed that there was interest in Rangers from Saudi Arabia. While he held Cavenagh and the 49ers in a higher regard, he ensured the Saudis remained an option.

He explained: "So my main focus then was working with the 49ers but keeping the Saudis in the background just in case the 49ers deal for whatever reason didn't come to fruition."
