When is the General Election 2019?

It's nearly time for Britain to take to the polls in another General Election .

The decision by Parliament followed weeks and even months of " Brexit deadlock" - as the Prime Minister described it.

The whole country has been divided since the European Union Referendum in 2016 - with some politicians calling for another vote, while others are wanting to cancel it altogether.

However current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, wants to pass through a Brexit deal as soon as possible, but has struggled to gain the backing of the House of Commons to pass through legislation.

Mr Johnson hopes his proposal of a General Election will result in more Conservative MPs being elected.

As a result, a majority Government can be formed, which will make it easier for the Prime Minister to pass through laws and any Brexit deal.

Initially, Labour refused the election, but after a Brexit extension from October 31 to January 31 was agreed by both the EU and the Government, the shadow cabinet then agreed to back the poll.

But when will it all happen?

The next General Election will take place on Thursday, December 12.

It will be the third time since 2015, but a first in December since the General Election in 1923.

Polling stations will open across the UK from 7am until 10pm, so there's plenty of time on the day to cast your vote.
