What date is Brexit happening now there are European elections?

The original date for Brexit (March 29) has long gone and the Prime Minister Theresa May and the government continue to fumble in getting a satisfactory deal over the line.

May currently plans to put a "new and improved" Brexit deal to MPs when they vote on the EU Withdrawal Agreement Bill in early June which she says will be a "bold offer".

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn remains unmoved saying his party will oppose the bill and it is "very difficult" to see it making progress.

The votes on this bill will be held the week beginning 3 June. If the bill is not passed, the default position is that the UK will leave the EU on 31 October without a deal. A no deal Brexit would very much be a worst case scenario.

MPs are also unlikely to back a no deal Brexit.

After this there could be a major renegotiation where the government could choose to negotiate a completely new Brexit deal - perhaps in accordance with votes of MPs.

There could also be another referendum, another general election OR the European Court of Justice has ruled that it would be legal for the UK to unilaterally revoke Article 50 to cancel Brexit (without the need for agreement from the other 27 EU countries).

With the government still committed to Brexit, it's very likely that a major event such as a further referendum or change of government would have to happen before such a move.
