What Daniel James told Norwich keeper Tim Krul about Manchester United penalty decision

Norwich midfielder Alexander Tettey has expressed his frustrations after Manchester United were awarded a controversial penalty in their weekend win at Carrow Road.

United missed two penalties in the 3-1 win against Norwich as goalkeeping heroics from Tim Krul denied both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial from 12 yards.

Despite the poor penalty taking Tettey was still angered by the role VAR played in awarding both penalties, and in particular the time it took to overrule the initial decisions.

United's first penalty was awarded when Daniel James went down under a challenge from Ben Godfrey, and Tettey even claims the Welsh winger admitted that the spot-kick shouldn't have been given.

"It was a bit strange," Tettey told VG. "The referee tells me there was no penalty. I told him there was no punishment. James told [Tim Krul] that there was no penalty.

"However, then we get someone who sits somewhere and says they are penalties. I don’t think so.

"I was really p****** off throughout the game. First and foremost, we do some things that are really weird and then you have this VAR stuff that makes you have to wait.

"You play the game, you have adrenaline from before, you don’t need more things to create excitement.

"What is it about? Just decide it so the game can move on. How can they determine that they are penalties? If the referee sees it clearly, can’t he decide? Who knows?"
