What Crystal Palace legend Andy Johnson has said that will go down well with Eagles fans

Former Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson says he feels things are moving in the right direction at his old club after finishing 12th in the Premier League.

The Eagles finished 15 points clear of the relegation zone in the top flight, with Roy Hodgson guiding Palace to a record points haul of 49 in a 38-game Premier League season.

And Johnson has been full of praise for how the Eagles have performed this season, with the Palace legend predicting good things for his old club in the future.

“Yeah, it has been fantastic. You look at them just after Christmas and it was all doom and gloom, but you are going to get that. They won’t be high flying at the top end of the table every season, and you will have highs and lows," he said.

“There is a lot of talk about relegation, but you look at the squad they have built and their home results haven’t been amazing, but I have seen enough of them and their home performances have been good. They have played some fantastic football and been unlucky on occasions.

“Their away form has been tremendous and they have got a great squad, and a great manager who I had for four years at Fulham – he was the England manager for a reason – and they have a great chairman, and all of the boys who are back at the club, Mark Bright and Dougie Freedman, they look after their own.

“It is a fantastic club and a fantastic environment and hopefully the new stadium will get done, to help take them in a different direction, and with the academy it is all moving in the right direction."
