What Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson said about Tottenham's new stadium after opening game

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was full of praise for Tottenham's new stadium after the Eagles played their part in the first Premier League fixture at the £1billion complex.

Palace were the visitors for the first game at Tottenham's new stadium last night (Wednesday), with goals from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen helping Spurs make a winning start in their new ground, with a 2-0 victory.

And Palace boss Hodgson admitted he was impressed by the new stadium.

"It is outstanding; I can understand why there has been so much hype around it - they must be extremely proud to have created a stadium like this for their team to perform in," he said.

Meanwhile, the Palace boss felt that the Eagles played their part in the contest, and perhaps could have got something from the game.

"I thought that if we had just kept that a little bit longer to 0-0, or 1-0, or just ten to 15 minutes later, then maybe in the last 15 or 20 minutes they would have had a little bit more concern for some of our attacking moves," he said.

"[Hugo] Lloris made two very good saves, one from Patrick van Aanholt and one from Wilfried Zaha, and Christian Benteke almost scored with a header.

"So I think they would have been worried a little bit but at 2-0 I suppose that margin gave them some comfort.

"It has obviously been a great evening for them but we certainly played our part, no surrender and didn't make life easy for them.

"But we have to say that the way they played they deserved to start off on the right foot in their new stadium."
