What colour is Spain on the travel list and will it move to red?

Summer holidays to Spain are reportedly 'at risk' as reports suggest the country could move to the red list.

The Spanish government currently requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK to present on entry a pre-travel declaration form and one of the following: a negative COVID-19 test; or proof of vaccination.

Spain, including the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands (Formentera, Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca), at present, are on the amber list.

Before you travel to England you must take a COVID-19 test – you must take the test in the three days before you travel to England book and pay for COVID-19 tests – to be taken after arrival in England complete a passenger locator form

On arrival in England, you must quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days, take a COVID-19 test on or before day two and on or after day eight.

You do not need to quarantine or take a day eight test after you arrive in England if you are either fully vaccinated in the UK or under the UK vaccine programme overseas, under 18 on the day you arrive in England and resident in the UK or in a country with a vaccination programme approved by the UK or part of a UK-approved vaccine trial.

You must have had your final dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before the date you arrive in England. You still need to book and take a day two test.

Boris Johnson said he wanted travel rules to be as simple as possible as he faced a backlash over the possible introduction of an "amber watchlist" of countries.

The rumoured amber watchlist, which could include Italy and Spain, would apply to countries at risk of being moved into the red category - which requires hotel quarantine for 10 days at a cost of £1,750 for an adult.

Asked if he personally backed such a move, Mr Johnson said: "I understand how much people plan, prepare, for the summer holidays.

"But we have also got to remember this is still a dangerous virus and we must try and stop variants coming in, must stop importing variants from abroad, so we have to have a balanced approach.

"What I want to see is something that is as simple and as user-friendly for people as possible."

The Prime Minister said the success of the vaccination campaign meant the British economy was "just about the most open in Europe" but there was a balance to be struck on travel because of the risk of importing new coronavirus variants.

"We also have to recognise that people want, badly, to go on their summer holidays, we need to get the travel industry moving again, we need to get our city centres open again and so we want an approach that is as simple as we can possibly make it."

The government is set to issue its latest update to the traffic light system this Thursday.
