What Christian Pulisic's perfect hat-trick at Burnley means for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea

Christian Pulisic really announced himself to Chelsea fans on Saturday evening as his perfect hat-trick helped the team register a 4-2 win at Burnley.

Making an impression off the substitutes' bench in the previous two games, Frank Lampard elected to hand the United States international a start as Callum Hudson-Odoi dropped out of the side.

The 21-year-old repaid his manager's faith in him as he netted his first goal for the club following a brilliant run and low finish, before then doubling his tally prior to half-time with his effort going in via a deflection.

Pulisic then completed his hat-trick 11 minutes after the break as he found the far corner with a superb header from Mason Mount's cross.

Hudson-Odoi did come on in the final twenty minutes and, as he needed to, made an impression with some positive running at the Burnley backline.

Fikayo Tomori hailed Pulisic after the game and he believes that the American's trebles will raise Hudson-Odoi's game and benefit everyone else at Chelsea.

"Yeah for sure, Callum was rested today and Christian comes in and scores a hat-trick," said the defender.

"That is going to raise Callum's game and then Christian is going to want to keep raising his game to stay in the team.

"It is good for everyone."

It has not been the easiest of starts for Pulisic in west London after finding himself in and out of the team and not even making the squad for the Champions League game against Lille.

His head has not dropped once and teammate Tomori has praised the attacker for putting in work on the training pitch at Cobham.

"Everyone is disappointed when they don't play," he added. "In our team we have got a lot of talented players so you just have to be patient and when you get your chance you have just got to take it like he has today, and the last two games when he has come on and changed the game.

"I am really happy for him and I think that patience and hard work showed in training has paid off.

"I think that we have a lot of competition for places in the team. You have got to be on top of your game, not only in the games but in training as well.

"The fact that Christian has come in today, it is good for the whole team because everyone has to be on their toes.

"No one knows their position is safe and that drives the team on and brings the best out of each individual."
