What Christian Pulisic did at full time after Chelsea beat Man City in Champions League final

Chelsea secured their second UEFA Champions League title in their history last night with a comfortable 1-0 win over Manchester City at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

Attacking-midfielder Kai Havertz, who had never scored in the Champions League before, netted the only goal of the game shortly before half time, latching onto Mason Mount's through ball, knocking it past Ederson in the City goal and then into an empty net.

It was nothing more than what Thomas Tuchel's side deserved, as they were dominant from almost the first whistle in Portugal. The German nailed his tactics to perfection to lead his side to a third win over City in the space of just six weeks.

City, despite opting to go with a star-studded attacking line-up, with Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling all starting, failed to lay a glove on the Blues, who were rarely troubled in the final third despite the talent on show.

Although Havertz scored the only goal of the game, Chelsea should have had at least two, maybe even three, with some wasteful finishing threatening to cost them in the tense, nerve-racking minutes that closed in on the full time whistle.

The best chance to double their lead fell to substitute Christian Pulisic, who got in behind the City defence, dinked the ball over Ederson and looked poised to wheel away in delight when the ball bulged the bottom corner.

Instead, it went just wide, almost certainly causing the USA international no shortage of stress in the latter stages of the contest as City pushed for a leveller. But his miss wasn't to prove too costly, as the Blues got the job done. And you could sense the relief on Pulisic's face at the full time whistle.

As the game and the Champions League campaign was brought to its conclusion, the former Borussia Dortmund man sank to his knees, put his arms out wide and looked up to to the Heavens, almost thanking God for that miss not proving too costly.

It was a poignant moment that meant everything to the winger, who could have considered himself for not starting the contest.

But his reaction at the full time whistle suggested that he did not have a care in the world. He was off to get his winners' medal and celebrate a historic achievement with his team-mates.

Pulisic played a key role in helping Chelsea's reach the final, scoring in the first-leg of the semi-final clash with Real Madrid, which proved to be a key away-goal in the tie.
