What Christian Eriksen has said about what he needs to work on and his current Spurs contract

Christian Eriksen has found himself on the substitutes' bench in Tottenham's past two games after such a disappointing start to the season.

Excellent on the opening day as he helped Spurs beat Aston Villa 3-1 after initially trailing by a goal, the 27-year-old's performances since then have been dismal and many supporters have called for Mauricio Pochettino not to play him.

Giovani Lo Celso has got the nod in the past two fixtures after returning from injury and it may stay that way unless Eriksen's form picks up dramatically.

Looking a certainty to leave in the summer as things stand due to his contract situation in N17, the Dane has opened up while on international duty about why he is struggling on the pitch and what he needs to work on to get back to his best for the Lilywhites.

"I might take a little more chance than certain other positions on the pitch," he told Danish publication BT. "Of course, there are mistakes, and the decisions taken must also be carried out correctly.

"There may have been a little bit missing.

"I’ve been in the right situations. I just haven’t taken the right decisions.

"It’s a bit about the sharpness that is missing. This is something I have to work on myself."

"The national team is something else to play for than the club team. They are two very different things.

"So the drop I may have got in the club, which is not a big drop, should not matter," he added.

With a large number of supporters wanting Pochettino to start planning for life without the midfielder given his contract expires in the summer, Eriksen doesn't believe his place on the bench in recent weeks is actually down to the fact he appears to be on his way out.

"I feel 100 percent that Tottenham has complete confidence in me," he said. "There is not that big a difference, except that I play a little less this year.

"I don’t feel there is a connection between my contract situation and the fact that I haven’t played as many matches."
