What Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku told Kai Havertz before completing £71m transfer

Romelu Lukaku previously hailed Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz as a star in the making ahead of his big-money arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The German became one of Chelsea’s all-time most expensive signings with a £71million switch from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

He was fresh off the back of a stunning season back in his homeland, the then 21-year-old having netting 18 goals and notched nine assists - that following a season where he had also plundered 20 goals for Leverkusen.

His form certainly got him noticed throughout European football, with Chelsea eventually winning the race for his much sought-after signature.

Havertz, whilst having endured an inconsistent first season at Stamford Bridge, did prove inspirational for Chelsea at times having scored nine goals including the winning strike in the Champions League final.

At just 22, Havertz certainly still has more to achieve - an opinion that Lukaku shares.

Ahead of the German’s arrival at Chelsea, he shared an Instagram story of him in action with Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter-finals of the 2019/20 Europa League.

In the end, it was Lukaku's Inter Milan who ran out victors between the two but only after both the Belgian striker and Havertz had found the net.

The former Manchester United striker then replied to Havertz's story with the message "you a star in the making".

Whilst only linking up on social media, Chelsea supporters will certainly hope that they are also on the same wavelength on the pitch.

Lukaku remains strongly linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, with reports on Tuesday morning suggesting that the Blues had a bid worth £85million plus Marcos Alonso turned down by the reigning Serie A champions.
