What Chelsea supporters did when Christian Pulisic was substituted in Champions League decider

Christian Pulisic has enjoyed a stunning transformation at Chelsea over the past couple of months.

A signing from Borussia Dortmund last January, the America international had to wait until the summer to link up with his new teammates at Stamford Bridge as he spent the second half of the 2018/2019 season on loan with the Bundesliga outift.

He then had to wait even longer to make an impression under Frank Lampard.

Lampard delighted with transfer embargo being lifted

Despite impressing in pre-season, Pulisic failed to transform those performances when the season got underway.

In fact, after starting against Norwich City in gameweek three of the new Premier League season he spent some time on the bench and even out of the matchday squad.

Furthermore, there was even rumours that he could be loaned out in the new year.

However, things changed prior to the October international break as he recorded his second Premier League assist in the 4-1 win over Southampton at St Mary's and it's safe to say he's not looked back since.

Pulisic scored the perfect hat-trick against Burnley in October and has weighed in with some important goals against Watford, Crystal Palace and Valencia in recent weeks.

Now very much a regular in Lampard's side and was trusted to start the Champions League decider against Lille on Tuesday night - a match where the Blues clinched victory to reach the last 16.

And during the win Pulisic was singled out for special praise.

As spotted on Reddit, Chelsea fans gave Pulisic a standing ovation when he was substituted for Callum Hudson-Odoi during the 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the standing ovation, Pulisic admits he's far from the finished article.

"I'm really happy to just be a part of this team," Pulisic told the Chelsea website.

"When we were flowing like you could see in the first half it was really nice but in the end, if we’re being critical on ourselves, we need to be even more clinical, myself as well."
