Chelsea's players stepped up their fitness levels ahead of the Premier League season hopefully resuming next month by returning to their Cobham training base on Tuesday for the first time since football was sent into shutdown mode amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Blues' players, who will have grand ambitions to complete the campaign, had to train in line with the government's social distancing restrictions, meaning they were forced to train in small groups with a maximum of five in each.
It is the first phase of the Premier League's plan to get the campaign moving again next month, after a vote allowing players to resume training was passed on Monday.
The Bundesliga in Germany made its return last weekend and it is hoped that English football can follow suit next month, though it must be stressed that, at the time of writing, no official date has yet been set for when the Premier League campaign will resume.
Despite that, the actual fact that players are now able to get back out on the grass, albeit for only 75 minutes at a time, will offer encouragement to clubs right across the country that the campaign can be finalised, almost 10 weeks since the campaign was halted.
For Chelsea's players, being back at Cobham will have brought a sense of normality and happiness back to their lives after a frustrating period of having to train alone at home.
