What Chelsea's Conor Gallagher has said on his first senior England call-up for San Marino clash

Conor Gallagher has received his first senior call up to the England squad.

On loan at Crystal Palace, the Chelsea academy graduate is showing his worth under Patrick Vieira, having scored four goals in 11 games and impressing in the top flight.

The Eagles currently sit tenth in the Premier League despite a relatively slow start and having lost just two games out of 11, Vieira's side are proving to be a tough team to beat.

Gallagher has been key to their recent success, scoring four times from midfield and earning a number of man of the match awards along the way.

His performances have earned him high praise and now he has been rewarded for his efforts.

A statement on England's official website read: "Conor Gallagher has received his first senior call up to the England senior men’s squad.

"The Crystal Palace loanee will train with the group at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground before travelling with the squad for Monday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in San Marino.

"However, Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw will not travel."

Understandably, Gallagher is ecstatic about the news.

Speaking on his call-up, he said: “I’m really happy and excited to be called up to the senior squad.

"I’m determined to make the most of the experience and know I have a lot of hard work to do. I’d like to thank everyone that has helped me in my career so far and I’ll do my best to make them proud."

With England needing just a point against the worst-ranked side in the world to book their place at the World Cup in Qatar next year, Gallagher will be hoping to make his senior international debut on Monday night.
