What Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour's mother did after confirmation of Norwich transfer

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour’s mother had a brilliant response to confirmation of the midfielder’s loan switch to Norwich City.

The young Scot joined the Canaries on a season-long loan last week, linking up with Daniel Farke’s squad to earn more Premier League experience.

The Chelsea player, who has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, moves to Norwich as they aim to fight against the threat of relegation following their promotion from the Championship.

Following confirmation of the deal, Gilmour was handed the opportunity to enjoy signing photos with his family at Norwich’s training ground.

All of his family were present, including his mother, father and brother but it was the former that had the best response.

A committed Rangers fan, Carrie Gilmour chose not to touch the green panels of the Norwich scarf - a colour strongly associated with Rangers’ fiery rivals Celtic.

Instead, she said: "I'll touch the yellow bit!"

Meanwhile, Gilmour junior had no problem getting involved despite his obvious Rangers allegiances.

The 20-year-old kicked off his career in the Ibrox academy, spending eight years with the Scottish giants before a switch to Chelsea in 2017.

He was also linked with a return to Rangers this summer, with the current Scottish champions reportedly rivalling Norwich for his signature but they eventually lost out.

Upon signing for the Canaries, Gilmour said: “I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead. I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League.

“I spoke to the head coach [Daniel Farke] here. He called me and we had a nice talk about how he wants to play and how he sees me fitting in. Everything he said was what I want to do on the pitch, get the ball down and play nice football. He spoke really highly of his team and I wanted to come join here and help.

“There are very exciting times ahead, coming in for pre-season and seeing all the lads. Let’s get to it.”
