What Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has done to impress Gary Neville so much

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has heaped praise on the shoulders of Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard for the way he set his Chelsea side up to deal with Tottenham Hotspur's attacking threat during last weekend's goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.

Neville made the admission after Spurs climbed back to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over north London rivals Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A stunning opener from Son Heung-min sent Spurs on their way before Harry Kane notched his 14th goal of the season just before half-time to seal another impressive win for Jose Mourinho's side.

Though Spurs were comfortable winners, Arsenal dictated the game for long spells, albeit without giving Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris too much to think about.

Spurs' victory over Arsenal sealed a return to winning ways after last Sunday's draw at Stamford Bridge, which marked just the second game this season that they have failed to score in this season.

Mourinho's side were left frustrated by a resilient Chelsea side in a contest that, in truth, lacked clear-cut opportunities for both sides.

Despite that, during Sky Sports' coverage of Sunday's north London derby tussle, Neville, who was on commentary duties, lauded Lampard for the way he set his team up in last weekend's clash at Stamford Bridge to stifle Spurs and keep the likes of Son and Kane quiet.

“What you can start to do is give Frank Lampard a little bit of credit for what he did last week for not falling," Neville told Sky Sports.

"I know what you’re saying, Jamie [Redknapp], but they [Arsenal] did over commit in those two moments. They’ve been beaten in the way they were always going to be beaten.

"Chelsea last week didn’t fall for it and in the end, they had a couple of chances.”

So far this season, Spurs have scored 23 goals in the Premier League, with Chelsea boasting the second-best defensive record, conceding just 11, meaning it should not come as too great a surprise to many that the Blues had the defensive quality to keep Spurs quiet last weekend.
