What Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham need to do to compete with Liverpool and Manchester United

Liverpool have been named the most marketable club in the Premier League, far ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

This is according to the second annual Top 50 Most Marketable Sport Properties list, compiled by Sports Pro Media and SponsorPulse, which assessed the marketability of sporting entities across the globe.

The Merseyside club placed eighth on the list, one spot higher than the overall Premier League organisation itself, and above both Manchester clubs, with United 10th and City 16th.

The London-based clubs were some distance behind their Premier League rivals, with Chelsea 23rd , Arsenal 31st and Spurs all the way down in 87th place.

Over 360,000 people across 18 countries were surveyed for the list over a period of time, to determine the behaviours and emotions towards a sporting property as well as reaction to sponsors to create an 'opportunity score'.

An opportunity score is based on seven key property health metrics: engagement, intensity, momentum, passion, excitement, consideration, and favourability.

This year’s list ranks the FIFA World Cup, the Olympic Games and the NBA as the top three most marketable sporting properties in the world, while Real Madrid in fourth place are the highest ranked football club, just ahead of their fierce rivals Barcelona.

It is not too surprising to see Arsenal and Spurs struggle, given how the two clubs have been devoid of Champions League football in recent seasons, but Chelsea’s lower ranking does seem questionable.

The Blues won the UCL in 2021 and the Europa League in 2019, and have continued to sign multiple high profile international players such as Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, which surely would have boosted their global profile.
