Chelsea travel to Watford in the first round of midweek Premier League football this season and three points will be the objective for Thomas Tuchel’s side as they aim to stay at the top of the table.
Their three point lead was cut down to just one following their 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with Manchester City and Liverpool closing the gap after their respective wins over the weekend.
Watford are also in need of another three points after they suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Leicester City at the weekend, leaving Claudio Ranieri’s side in 16th and four points above the drop zone.
The Hornets may fancy their chances of pulling off another shock on their own turf again here, after defeating Man United 4-1 just 11 days ago.
The Blues have a few injury concerns to mull over ahead of this fixture, but the hosts are having a crisis themselves with up to 10 players currently in the treatment room.

Team news
Claudio Ranieri is currently experiencing an injury crisis, with 10 players all suffering with individual problems, although Adam Mesina (knock) could make a quick recovery from the game against Leicester on Sunday, along with Juraj Kucka (knee) who missed out.
Emmanuel Dennis is a doubt after being withdrawn against The Foxes on Sunday, while match action still comes too early for Ken Sema (knee) and Francisco Sierralta (thigh).
It has been revealed this week that Ismaila Sarr (knee), Nicolas N'Koulou (thigh) and Ben Foster (hip) will all be out until the new year, joining long-term absentees Kwadwo Baah (ankle) and Peter Etebo (thigh) on the sidelines.

As for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel will hope to have Romelu Lukaku back in his starting lineup after he was left on the bench in his two games back from injury so far.
N’Golo Kante (knee) is set to miss out again as he continues to recover from his setback, along with Mateo Kovacic (thigh) and Ben Chilwell (knee).
There will also be late fitness tests for Reece James, Jorginho and Timo Werner, despite the trio having trained on Tuesday.
